My Beloved Angee,
I have noted the time above as well as the day and the mail goes out in the morning at 8.30 I must not leave writing to you until then. Well I have been very fully occupied since my arrival here and am getting much encouragement in the business and in the Lord's goodness some happy fellowship with the dear saints. They are a bright company here and numerous but after all it does not matter whether it be 2 or 3 or larger numbers – His presence in the midst is the great thing so that the smallest and weakest find the same portion for their souls. We had a bright day on the Lord's day morning afternoon and evening – the Hall was well filled in the evening and many strangers present some I had invited. This evening I went to a brother's house to tea and he had seats for between 60 and 70 for the saints in the evening who had been invited to a reading – took up the subject we had for a Lord's day morning reading at Taunton – the difference between Moses & Abraham – in Moses what man could do for God and in Abraham what God could do for man. Thro' grace the word was for edification and I trust there was something for every heart and conscience – we have had heavy rain today and for many days it has been very warm – too much so for my comfort physically for it means more than a wet shirt every night – hope cooler weather will soon come.
On Saturday afternoon I had a nice ride up the mountain as they call it here and it was very enjoyable I assure you – and this would have been all the more if you had also been sitting in the carriage – the view over the whole city and the country around with the great river winding its course was most impressive. The book of views accompanying will give an idea of the view as shown on the large picture of the city and also the chief points of interest, the great Notre Dame Cathedral the most conspicuous of all – the Romans Catholics are a great force here and you cannot take many steps without meeting a long black gowned priest. The French population is very numerous. Have been greatly helped and encouraged in the business and received much kindness from those who were perfect strangers to me. God is good and all that is good He is the source of – what a mercy for us to know the living and true God as revealed in the Son and His Love and the redemption which is in Him through His blood. I expect to receive your letter tomorrow about an hour or two after this is posted – God even our Father continue to bless you my dearest wife and with much love once more to your dear self and all our beloved children believe me ever.
Your affectionate Husband
